The origin story thread
An example thread for a hypothetical AI meeting notes tool for sales teams, annotated post by post.
Goal
Give strangers a reason to follow the founder, not the product.
When to post it
Week one of pre-launch, after the profile is fixed.
Note
Written by us to show the pattern. The product is hypothetical.
The thread, with margin notes
- I spent four years as a sales lead. The worst part of the job was not the calls. It was the 40 minutes after each call, writing notes nobody read. So I am building the tool I wanted. Here is the story so far:
The hook is a personal cost with a number in it. "Here is the story" promises a payoff and tells the reader to keep going.
- Every rep on my team had the same habit. Call ends. Tab over to the CRM. Type a summary from memory. Miss half of what the buyer said. Our forecast was built on those notes.
A scene the buyer recognises instantly. No product yet. The last line raises the stakes from annoying to expensive.
- We tried the obvious fixes. Recording tools: nobody rewatched them. Transcripts: 9 pages per call, nobody read them. Templates: filled in for a week, then ignored.
Listing failed fixes does two jobs. It shows you know the space, and it answers "why not just use X" before anyone asks.
- The real problem was never capturing the call. It was turning a messy conversation into the three things a manager needs: next step, objection, deal risk.
This is the insight post. If only one post gets quoted, it should be this one, so it is short and stands alone.
- So that is what we are building. A notes agent that listens to the call and writes those three lines into the CRM before the rep has closed the tab. Nothing else. No dashboards.
The product arrives late on purpose and is described by what it does, not by the model behind it. "Nothing else" signals focus.
- Where we are: Working on our own calls since August. 6 teams testing it. Biggest lesson so far: reps trust it more when it quotes the buyer word for word.
Honest progress with small numbers. The lesson gives other founders something to take away even if they never buy.
- I will share everything we learn here until launch, including what breaks. If you run a sales team and want early access, the waitlist is in the reply below.
The ask is soft and specific. Link goes in the reply so the main thread is not throttled for leaving X.
Why it works
- The founder is the hero of the first half, the buyer is the hero of the second.
- One clear insight post that can be quoted on its own.
- Numbers are small and real. That reads as honest, not weak.
- It ends with a promise to keep posting, which is the actual reason to follow.
Steal the structure
- Personal cost of the problem, with a number
- The scene everyone recognises
- What you tried that failed
- The insight
- What you are building, in plain words
- Where you are, honestly
- Promise to keep sharing + soft ask
